UPPA and GRIF: A day of immersion at the CSTJF

As part of the partnership between the Centre Scientifique Jean Feger in Pau (CSTJF) and the Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour (UPPA), TotalEnergies once again opened its doors to first-year master’s students from the Stochastics Tools and Computational Methods for Decision (MSID) and Mathematics, Modeling and Simulation (MMS) of UPPA. These students had the opportunity to spend an afternoon immersed at the CSTJF on December 19.

This visit, which was organized at the initiative of the company and the Reliability, Availability, Maintainability (RAM) team at CSTJF, allowed students to explore the site and its technological strengths, such as the Pangea 4 supercomputer, known for combining computational speed with energy efficiency. This day also gave them a better understanding of the key activities of the RAM team. For more than 40 years, the RAM service has been a crucial part of the team, responsible for managing reliability data and developing the GRIF software suite. These skills enable them to conduct safety and production availability studies for OneTech and the various branches of the company.

"The goal is for students to connect with the business world […]
it’s a discovery experience for them"

Christian Paroissin, Lecturer, UPPA

The day began with a general presentation of the company, followed by a detailed focus on the RAM team’s missions and the GRIF software. This was complemented by a data-centric activity featuring the OREDA project.

Interactive workshops were then offered to students, covering three main themes: managing a reliability database, GRIF Wind (the latest offshore wind project within the GRIF software suite at TotalEnergies (internships, apprenticeships, etc.).

As part of this latest workshop, the SnapCall, developed internally by the communication team, made a strong impression by using artificial intelligence to allow participants to envision themselves in the role of company professionals.

welcome UPPA

"A very interesting day that prompted reflection of the future […]
and provided insight into what lies ahead".

Sarah Dubos, MSID student, UPPA

To conclude the event, a quiz tested the participants’ newly acquired knowledge. Congratulations to Sarah for winning first place, and a big round of applause to all the students for their dedication!

A big thank you also to the supervisors, especially Christian Paroissin, for his support and trust.
